About Us

This is our story

Purpose-Bred. Performance Driven. Commercially Focused.

Since 1992, Oesterling Angus has been built around one simple philosophy: produce Angus genetics that add measurable value to the commercial cattleman.

We chose Angus for its exceptional maternal ability, functionality, and ability to produce cattle that perform. More than three decades later, that foundation remains at the heart of our program. Today, Oesterling Angus maintains approximately 200 Angus cows and continues to invest in genetics, technology, and performance data to move our herd forward.

Genetics With a Purpose

Every breeding decision begins with the commercial cattleman in mind. We believe superior seedstock should be more than impressive on paper—they should be functional cattle that perform in real-world production systems.

Our selection places strong emphasis on calving ease, calf vigor, maternal ability, disposition, performance, longevity, and overall herd functionality. Our ideal Angus female breeds, calves, raises a vigorous calf, stays sound, and remains productive for years. Our herd sires are selected to complement those females and add performance and value to the next generation.

Performance Is Part of the Process

We believe genetic progress requires more than visual appraisal. Every bull in our program is performance tested each year, providing measurable information to help identify cattle with the greatest potential for performance.

We combine that data with maternal traits, structural soundness, disposition, calving ease, and longevity to make disciplined breeding decisions. Our goal is not simply to produce cattle that perform, but to identify genetics capable of consistently transmitting those traits.

Advancing Genetics Through Technology

Reproductive technology is an important part of our genetic advancement. Each year, we implant approximately 125 embryos and utilize artificial insemination almost exclusively throughout our breeding program. These tools allow us to strategically multiply the genetics we believe can make the greatest impact on our herd and the commercial cattle industry.

Our Annual Sale

Each year, we invite cattlemen to evaluate the results of our program at our annual sale, held the third Saturday in January. Approximately 75 lots of Angus bulls and replacement heifers are offered, representing the genetics and direction of our herd.

What began in 1992 continues today with the same purpose: building functional, productive Angus genetics designed to work in the real world.
